National Disaster Preparedness Day Marked by Alarming and Simulating Evacuation
The celebration of the National Disaster Preparedness Day (HKBN) at PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM) on April 26, 2023, at the Gosowong Gold Mine began with alarming emergency sirens and evacuation simulations by the Emergency Response Team (ERT) for employees around the Gosowong Admin Building, gathered at the evacuation point in the Gosowong football field.
The government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia and the Directorate General of Minerals and Coal, sent an official letter to all Chief of Mining Engineers (KTT) and Operational Responsible Persons (PJO) in Indonesia for the successful implementation of the National Disaster Preparedness Day 2023, which fell on the April 26.
HKBN activities were fully supported by NHM management and various related departments, such as the Department of Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) with ERT, Good Mining Practices (GMP), and Communications. The series of activities embarked on April 26, April 29, and May 1, 2023.
This year’s HKBN commemoration aimed to increase efforts to manage mining safety, especially in disaster emergency preparedness that can occur in and out of the NHM Contract of Work area.
The NHM ERT Team is responsive and consistently contributes to emergency response activities when disasters occur, both in the mine area and the North Maluku Province. This team is also involved in the National Energy and Mineral Resources Team on Disaster Preparedness when a national-scale disaster occurs, such as the earthquake in Cianjur, West Java Province, in November 2022.
Amin Bahrun, GMP Compliance Officer, said that the HKBN was also a moment to increase the skills and capacity of the emergency response team to adapt and deal with disasters and recover quickly from the effects of catastrophe under the HKBN theme for 2023, “Sustainable Resilience”.
“Apart from the emergency response competency certification, equipment maintenance and individual skill improvement, as well as simulations and drills, have been scheduled for NHM’s internal interests. This event also serves as an awareness campaign for training and evaluation for the ERT team, the Crisis Management Team (CMT), and even all employees in dealing with emergencies that involve many people,” said Hendrick Lesa, ERT Superintendent.
On behalf of all NHM employees at the Gosowong Gold Mine, we wish you “Happy National Disaster Preparedness Day 2023!” added Hendrick enthusiastically.
