Consistent and Solid Commitment to Mining Safety: NHM Wins Prasetya Ahimsa Award from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources
PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM), the operator of the Gosowong Gold Mine in North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province, has consistently upheld mining safety standards for more than two decades of operation. This dedication was recognized with the Prasetya Ahimsa Award for Mineral and Coal Mining Safety Management for the 2023 Assessment Period, presented by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). The award ceremony took place during the 2024 Mineral and Coal Mining Company Board of Directors Meeting at The Trans Luxury Hotel, Bandung, on Friday, October 25.
The award was received by Amiruddin Hasyim, Deputy President Director of NHM, who was accompanied by Jeffry Butarbutar, Manager of Government Relations & Permitting at NHM. The event was also attended by key figures, including the Director General of Minerals and Coal, Tri Winarno; the Director of Engineering and Environment/Chief Mining Inspector, Hendra Gunawan; and representatives from mining companies across Indonesia.
In addition to the awards presentation, the event included a discussion session on the role of top management in promoting mining safety. This initiative aims to encourage company leaders to fully commit to achieving zero fatalities and minimizing workplace accidents.
Amiruddin emphasized that the event, including the awards, serves to enhance the implementation of sound mining engineering principles, particularly in the realm of mining safety. “The Prasetya Ahimsa Award was introduced for the first time by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in 2024. As the name suggests, Prasetya means promise or oath, and Ahimsa means non-violence or, in this context, avoiding harm to employees.
“Through this recognition, NHM reiterates its commitment to preventing incidents that could endanger workers. “Prasetya Ahimsa reflects the strong commitment and collaboration of all elements within the Gosowong Gold Mine to uphold occupational health and safety. This aligns with the spirit consistently upheld by NHM employees: Healthy, Safe, and Green!” Amiruddin stated.
