NHM and BNNP Malut Collaborate to Create a Drug-Free and Healthy Workplace
PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM) understands the importance of preventing and addressing drug abuse in the workplace. Substance abuse not only affects employee health and safety but also impacts productivity. To tackle this, NHM has implemented a robust anti-drug program aimed at fostering a healthy, safe, and drug-free work environment.
NHM’s anti-drug initiative focuses on prevention and awareness. According to NHM’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Manager, Dr. Kuncoro, the program includes random drug tests during routine health checkups and follow-up evaluations for any concerning results. “Our aim is to detect and prevent drug use while ensuring employees understand their role in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace,” he explained.
The company has also incorporated a strict anti-drug commitment into its Collective Labor Agreement (PKB). This agreement highlights workplace regulations and outlines severe penalties for violations, holding employees accountable for adhering to a drug-free policy. The program’s ultimate goal is to maintain a workplace entirely free from drug abuse.
NHM actively promotes anti-drug awareness through various channels, including videos, banners, and flyers distributed via email and social media. This effort aligns with the government’s P4GN (Prevention, Eradication, Abuse, and Illicit Drug Trade) initiative, in collaboration with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN).
On October 16, 2024, NHM welcomed Brigadier General Budi Mulyanto, S.I.K., M.H., Head of BNNP Maluku Utara, for a collaborative session at the Two River Bar in Gosowong. During the session, Brigadier General Budi emphasized the growing threat of narcotics and urged vigilance in the workplace. “We must remain alert to the changing types and distribution methods of narcotics. Everyone has a role in preventing drug abuse,” he stated.
As part of the collaboration, the BNNP Malut team conducted urine tests, starting with NHM’s senior leadership team and expanding to over 200 employees. All test results were negative, demonstrating the effectiveness of NHM’s drug prevention efforts.
This partnership with BNNP Maluku Utara is a critical aspect of NHM’s ongoing commitment to fostering a safe and productive work environment.
Kiki Kosmara, NHM’s General Manager of Production and Planning, highlighted the significance of this collaboration. “By working closely with BNNP Maluku Utara, we can take a structured and proactive approach to promoting a healthier workplace. Preventing drug abuse is now a fundamental part of our company culture,” he said.
Through this collaboration, NHM reinforces its dedication to maintaining a safe, healthy, and drug-free workplace for all employees.
