NHM Strengthens Disaster Mitigation Efforts in Kao Teluk
PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM), through the Department of Social Performance and Regional Affairs (KSUR), continues to actively educate the community, particularly school communities around the NHM mining area, about the importance of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) and disaster mitigation. On Friday, February 7, NHM held a PHBS and disaster mitigation education session at SMP Negeri 12 North Halmahera, located in Makaeling Village, Kao Teluk District. The event was attended by 173 participants, including students from grades VII to IX and teachers.
This initiative aligns with NHM’s commitment to increasing disaster preparedness among students in the mining area, particularly for earthquakes, floods, and other potential hazards. It also supports the objectives of Minister of Education and Culture Regulation Number 33 of 2019 on Disaster-Safe Education Units, which aims to create safe school environments for students.

The Principal of SMP Negeri 12, Yerni Betek, expressed her gratitude for NHM’s consistent efforts in promoting PHBS and disaster preparedness, even under challenging circumstances. “We are grateful for NHM’s commitment to educating students about disaster preparedness and healthy living. We hope activities like this will continue, not only for students but also for teachers and staff. Additionally, we look forward to NHM’s recovery and the continuation of other programs, including the renovation of schools that may have been affected by earthquakes,” said Yerni Betek.
The KSUR team facilitating the session included Salim Ahmad (Supervisor of Sustainable Development) and Edward Namotemo (Senior Officer of Sustainable Development), who led discussions and educational activities for the students

“To date, the NHM Disaster Resilient School Program has been implemented in 34 schools within the NHM mining area, and we plan to expand this initiative to additional schools,” said Salim Ahmad. In addition to PHBS and disaster mitigation education, the NHM KSUR team also donated tree seedlings to the school, which will be planted in the schoolyard as part of the company’s greening and environmental preservation efforts.
In addition to PHBS education and disaster mitigation, the NHM KSUR team also handed over tree seedlings to the school to be planted in the schoolyard as part of greening and environmental preservation efforts.
Through this initiative, NHM aims to contribute to the development of safer, healthier, and more environmentally friendly schools in the mining area. By promoting disaster preparedness and sustainable practices, NHM continues to support local communities while reinforcing its commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship.
