Commission II and III of the North Maluku Provincial DPRD Visit the Gosowong Gold Mine to Express Support for the Continuity of NHM Operations
PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM) hosted a visit from Commission II and III of the North Maluku (Malut) Provincial DPRD, along with several other government officials, on Thursday, February 27, at the Two Rivers Gosowong Building. During the visit, stakeholders expressed their support for the continued operation of the Gosowong Gold Mine, while emphasizing the importance of NHM fulfilling its obligations to the government and local communities. The visit also served to strengthen coordination and foster goodwill between legislative and executive institutions. NHM’s Deputy President Director, Amiruddin Hasyim, along with site management and NHM employees, warmly welcomed the guests.
This visit was conducted in two sessions. The first session, with Commission II of the North Maluku DPRD, covered topics such as regional income, labor policies, and an update on the current status of operations at the Gosowong Gold Mine. Commission II was led by the Chairperson and Coordinator, Agriati Yulin Mus, along with several members from various factions within the DPRD. Regional government officials also attended, including Zainab Alting, Head of the Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda), along with the agency’s secretary, division heads, and expert staff.

The second session was attended by Commission III, led by Iqbal Ruray, Chairperson of the DPRD of North Maluku, along with members from various political parties. Also present was Suryanto Andili, Head of the Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Service of North Maluku, accompanied by his staff. The discussion in this session focused on non-tax state revenues, NHM’s Community Development and Empowerment (PPM) programs, and the recovery of mining operations.
A key topic of discussion was NHM’s efforts to recover from significant challenges. Amiruddin Hasyim explained that underground mining, such as that at the Gosowong Gold Mine, is inherently high-risk from a risk management perspective. This requires specialized mitigation strategies to ensure safety, environmental protection, and the effective use of capital and technology to optimize recovery.

Amiruddin acknowledged that these challenges impact various aspects of operations, including NHM’s contributions to the region and society. “With confidence in our reserves, NHM remains hopeful for recovery and growth. We sincerely seek guidance, support, and cooperation from all stakeholders, including provincial and district government representatives. We are optimistic that NHM, as an essential national asset, will continue its mining operations in accordance with Good Mining Practices (GMP), maximizing benefits for the nation and the state,” he said.
Following the presentation on NHM’s current challenges, both Commission II and III expressed understanding of the situation and reiterated their commitment to supporting NHM’s sustainability. They acknowledged that NHM is one of the North Maluku region’s most valuable assets, one that should be preserved to continue benefiting the community. However, they also emphasized the need for NHM to fulfill its regional obligations to boost local revenue (PAD), urging the company to address these commitments promptly.
