From North Maluku to North Sumatra, NHM Demonstrates Commitment to Community Through Humanitarian Assistance
Demonstrating its commitment to supporting communities affected by disasters, PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM), the operator of the Gosowong Gold Mine, deployed its Emergency Response Team (ERT) to provide humanitarian assistance to victims of the recent natural disaster in North Sumatra.
On December 7, 2025, NHM sent two additional ERT members, Zakaria Barham and Aristo Ely, to join the team already operating in the affected areas. The ERT had been actively involved in search and rescue operations, evacuation efforts, and the delivery of emergency assistance to communities impacted by the severe flooding.
On this mission, the two ERT members were tasked with delivering relief supplies on behalf of NHM owner Haji Robert Nitiyudo Wachjo. The assistance included medicines, tarpaulins, mats, blankets, pillows, towels, soap, children’s milk, and basic food items such as rice, instant noodles, eggs, and cooking oil.
The aid was distributed directly to several evacuation sites, including Garoga Village (350 families), Trans Blok B Evacuation Post (435 families), Aek Horsik Evacuation Post (500 families), and Pinang Sori Evacuation Post (500 families).
Prior to distribution, the ERT coordinated closely with various agencies and Search and Rescue (SAR) units, including the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), through the ESDM Disaster Preparedness Post at Agincourt Resources in Napa Village, South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, to ensure that the assistance reached the communities most in need.
Zakaria Barham, Logistics Coordinator of the NHM ERT, emphasized that the assistance represented not only material support, but also a message of solidarity for disaster victims.
“In these difficult conditions, this assistance is not only timely and necessary, but also a reminder that the community is not facing this disaster alone,” Zakaria said.
Rohman Sukatma, Deputy Manager of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) at NHM, added that the humanitarian response reflects the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and its genuine concern for communities in crisis.
“As part of our responsibility to the community, we felt it was important to respond quickly by deploying our emergency response team to support rescue efforts and deliver aid. We hope this assistance can help ease the burden faced by disaster victims,” he said.
Meanwhile, Risman Rambe, Head of Garoga Village in Batang Toru District, expressed his appreciation on behalf of the affected residents.
“We are deeply grateful to NHM for the assistance provided. This support is very meaningful for our community and has helped ease the difficulties we are currently facing,” Risman said.
