The business community’s commitment to strengthening tolerance, religious moderation, and inclusive social development was once again demonstrated through the inauguration and consecration of the Imanuel Gamsungi Central Church of the Christian Evangelical Church in Halmahera (GMIH) in Tobelo. The church was rebuilt with the support of PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM), as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting the social and religious life of communities in North Maluku.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by NHM representative Rara Dodo Lawolo, NHM’s Operational Director and Head of Mining Engineering, who represented President Director Haji Robert Nitiyudo Wachjo. Also in attendance were the Secretary of North Maluku Province, Samsuddin A. Kadir; the Regent of North Halmahera, Piet Hein Babua; the Chairwoman of the North Halmahera Regional Parliament, Christina Lesnussa; members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda); GMIH leaders and pastors; as well as youth representatives, religious figures, and local government officials. The presence of these various stakeholders reflected collective support for strengthening spiritual life and social harmony in the region.

The highlight of the event was a joint worship service held in a spirit of gratitude and joy. The inauguration marked an important milestone for the GMIH congregation, especially as it was held ahead of Christmas, allowing Christian communities in Tobelo and surrounding areas to celebrate the holiday in a more dignified and representative house of worship.

Nyoter Koenoe, Chairperson of the Church Construction Committee and the Inauguration and Consecration Committee, stated that the church’s construction was the result of collaboration among various parties, including the congregation, local government, and business stakeholders. He emphasized the significant moral and material support provided by NHM and Haji Robert Nitiyudo Wachjo, which made it possible for the construction to be completed and the church to be officially inaugurated.

He also recalled that the construction process had faced a major setback when a fire destroyed the church on February 17, 2021. The incident deeply affected the congregation, but through renewed faith and continued support from Haji Robert Nitiyudo Wachjo, the building committee was re-established and construction resumed with renewed determination and hope.

In his remarks, Rara Dodo Lawolo said that NHM’s support for the GMIH Central Church reflects the company’s long-term commitment to supporting the social and religious well-being of communities surrounding its operational areas. He emphasized that harmony and mutual respect among religious communities are essential foundations for sustainable regional development.

“On behalf of the NHM family and Mr. Haji Robert Nitiyudo Wachjo, we hope this church will become a place of worship that strengthens faith, peace, and togetherness within the congregation,” he said.

To conclude the inauguration, NHM extended its Christmas greetings for December 25, 2025, and New Year wishes for January 1, 2026, to all Christian communities, expressing hope that the spirit of love, peace, and brotherhood will continue to strengthen unity in diversity, in line with the national agenda of promoting tolerance and social cohesion.
