Ahead of the pre-Christmas worship services, the Local Christian Employees Forum of NHM and its business partners (Forkaloka) carried out a social outreach program by distributing essential food packages to residents in Kao and Dim-dim Villages. A total of 61 food packages were distributed to vulnerable groups, including widows, widowers, orphans, and elderly residents, as a tangible expression of care and social solidarity ahead of the Christmas holiday.

This initiative supports efforts to strengthen social resilience and food security, particularly for vulnerable groups facing increased household needs during the festive season. As Christmas approaches, demand for basic necessities often rises while price fluctuations can place additional pressure on low-income families. Through this program, Forkaloka aims to help ensure that basic needs are met, allowing communities to celebrate Christmas with dignity, safety, and joy.

El-Kharis Salamena, Chair of the 2025 Forkaloka Christmas Committee, said that the activity was intended not only to meet basic needs, but also to strengthen bonds of togetherness and compassion that reflect the true meaning of Christmas.

“Providing food for vulnerable groups is a real expression of love. Through this activity, we hope to bring peace, comfort, and hope, so that the spirit of Christmas as a moment of sharing can be felt by all levels of society,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries, Obelia Bawes, an orphan from Dim-dim Village, expressed her gratitude for the assistance.

“For some people this may seem small, but for me it is very meaningful and helps meet my daily needs. May God bless NHM and all the volunteers involved,” Obelia said.

After completing distribution in Dim-dim Village, the Forkaloka Diakonia team continued their outreach by visiting residents’ homes in Kao Village. Widows, widowers, and elderly residents warmly welcomed the team. In addition to delivering food packages, the volunteers also offered prayers, providing moral and spiritual support to the recipients.

Yafet Doe, a resident of Kao Village who has long suffered from a stroke, also expressed his appreciation.

“May all NHM employees continue to be a blessing to the community, both around the mining area and wherever they are,” he said.

Glend Huliselan, Chair of the Forkaloka Community, who was also present at the event, expressed his appreciation to NHM’s Board of Directors, Gosowong Site Management, and all committee members who took time out of their schedules to engage directly with the community.

“I would like to thank the Committee Chair, Diakonia Coordinator Cindy M. Siden, and all volunteers who were involved. I hope this food assistance can help ease the burden of widows, widowers, orphans, and the elderly in Kao and Dim-dim Villages as they approach Christmas,” Glend said.

He added that the Christmas spirit should go beyond ceremonial celebrations and be reflected in concrete acts of care.

“Through this food distribution, Christmas becomes a moment to bring light, hope, and real compassion to one another, so that its impact is truly felt by surrounding communities,” he concluded.
