NHM Strengthens Safety Leadership Through POP Training and Certification (Batch II)

PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM) continues to invest in developing strong safety leadership within its operations through the First Operational Supervisor (POP) Training and Certification – Batch II.

Held at the Gosowong site in North Halmahera from January 24 to January 26, 2026, the three-day in-person training brought together 26 participants. The program was officially opened by Deputy Director of Operations and Head of Mine Technical Services (KTT), Rara Dodo Lawolo.

Organized in collaboration with PT Cipta Mandala Indonesia’s Occupational Safety Training and Consulting Services, the training covered eight competency units aligned with the POP certification framework under Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No. 43 of 2016. The sessions were delivered by Ir. Drs. Abdul Rauf, M.Sc., and Ir. Syafruddin, M.H., who provided both regulatory context and practical field applications.

In his opening remarks, Rado emphasized that POP certification is more than a regulatory requirement, it is a critical step in strengthening operational discipline and safety culture across the site.

“A First Operational Supervisor plays a key role on the front line of mining operations. They directly oversee operational teams and are responsible for ensuring safety standards are consistently implemented,” he said. “Through this program, we reinforce our commitment to the principle of ‘Arrive Safe, Leave Safe’ in every work activity.”

Superintendent of HSE Operations Johny Herman Karwur added that the program is designed to equip supervisors with practical knowledge and decision-making skills to manage risks effectively in the field.

“Our goal is to prepare supervisors who are not only compliant with regulations, but who truly understand how to apply Good Mining Practices in their daily operations,” he explained. “Strong supervisors are essential in preventing incidents, minimizing risks, and ensuring safe and efficient production.”

Participants also welcomed the opportunity to deepen their understanding of safety standards. Alwi Masbait from the Technical Services Department shared that the training enhanced both his technical knowledge and confidence.

“This program has strengthened my understanding of Occupational Safety and Health. I feel more prepared to take on my responsibilities as a First Operational Supervisor in the field,” he said.

Through continued initiatives like the POP training program, NHM reinforces its commitment to developing competent mining professionals and building a sustainable safety culture that supports operational excellence.
