156th Home Renovation Completed: NHM Strengthens Community Welfare in the Mining Area

At 74 years old, Mr. Nikanor Pita can now spend his retirement in a safe, healthy, and dignified home. For years, he lived with his wife, child, and grandson in a house that was no longer fit for proper habitation in Tuguis Village, West Kao District.

Through the NHM Peduli program, PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM) officially handed over a newly renovated home to Mr. Nikanor and his family. This marks the completion of the 156th unit under NHM’s Home Renovation Program, which is dedicated to supporting underprivileged communities in areas surrounding the company’s operations.

The handover ceremony was filled with emotion. With tears in his eyes, Mr. Nikanor expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the assistance he received.

“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to NHM President Director, Mr. Haji Robert Nitiyudo Wachjo, and the entire NHM team. I may not be able to repay this kindness materially, but I will continue to pray that Mr. Haji Robert and NHM are always granted success and smooth progress in all their endeavors. May God reward this generosity,” he said.

The event was attended by the Head of West Kao Sub-district, Efroni Tos Hendrik, members of the West Kao Village Heads Forum (FKD), the Village Heads of Soamaetek and Parseba, village officials, representatives of the Village Consultative Body (BPD), as well as religious, traditional, and community leaders. Their presence reflected strong collective support for initiatives aimed at improving community welfare.

NHM’s Head of Sustainable Development Division, Irwan Malaka, emphasized that the Home Renovation Program is a key part of the company’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life in communities surrounding the mine.

“We believe that a home is more than just a place to live, it is the foundation for a family to build a healthier, more comfortable, and dignified life. Through this program, we hope Mr. Nikanor’s family can move forward with greater peace, security, and hope for the future,” he said.

Since its inception, the NHM Peduli Home Renovation Program has supported hundreds of families across the mining area. The completion of this 156th unit underscores the company’s consistency in delivering tangible and meaningful social impact.

Beyond physical improvements, the program continues to strengthen collaboration between the company, local government, and communities – fostering shared prosperity and sustainable development in North Halmahera.
