No More Long Walks for Water: NHM Restores Lifeline for Pasir Putih Village
Residents of Pasir Putih Village, Kao Teluk District, North Halmahera, can now once again enjoy easy access to clean water after their village water facility was successfully restored by PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM) through the NHM Peduli program.
The facility had previously been out of service due to damage to the pump system and distribution pipeline network, disrupting the flow of water from the source to residential areas. As a result, residents were forced to travel long distances to collect water and incur additional expenses to meet their daily needs, including drinking and sanitation.
Responding to this challenge, NHM carried out a comprehensive revitalization effort. The program included the procurement and installation of a new water pump, improvements to the distribution system, and the installation of an 800-meter pipeline network extending directly to residents’ homes. The work was implemented in close collaboration with the local community, who actively participated in the pipeline installation process.

With the system now fully operational, residents can once again access clean water more easily, safely, and efficiently. The official inauguration and handover of the revitalized facility to the village government took place on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the Pasir Putih Village Hall. The event was attended by representatives of the Village Government, the Village Consultative Body (BPD), beneficiary residents, and the NHM Peduli team.
Pasir Putih Village Head, Obednego Tjandua, expressed his appreciation for NHM’s support. “We extend our sincere gratitude to NHM, especially President Director Mr. Haji Robert Nitiyudo Wachjo, for the attention and commitment shown in restoring and expanding access to clean water in Pasir Putih Village,” he said.
Dina Yakop, one of the beneficiary residents, also shared her gratitude following the restoration. “Now we can enjoy clean water at home again, just like before. Thank you to NHM for providing this facility,” she said.

Head of NHM Peduli’s Sustainable Development Division, M. Irwan Malaka, highlighted the importance of community involvement in ensuring the program’s success and sustainability. He also encouraged the Village Government to establish local regulations on water management to maintain the facility’s long-term functionality. “The community is encouraged to use water wisely according to their needs, so that this facility can continue to benefit everyone in a sustainable way,” he stated.
This revitalization effort aligns with the priority programs of the North Maluku Provincial Government, as well as the national agenda to expand access to clean drinking water and safe sanitation, demonstrating NHM’s continued commitment to supporting sustainable community development.
