By Helicopter: NHM Peduli Evacuates Patient from North Halmahera to Manado

The vast geography of Halmahera Island, combined with limited inter-regional transportation links, continues to present significant challenges for communities seeking access to healthcare, especially when patients require referral to hospitals with more advanced medical facilities.

To help address this need, the NHM Peduli Foundation offers a range of healthcare support services to the community. These include ambulances on standby for residents in mining-adjacent areas, as well as referral transportation assistance by land, sea, or air, all provided free of charge to those in need.

On March 10, 2026, the NHM Peduli Foundation assisted in the evacuation of a patient from Tobelo Regional General Hospital in North Halmahera Regency to Manado. The patient, Mrs. Aulia (61), a resident of Luari Village, Tobelo, was airlifted by helicopter to receive further medical treatment at a facility better equipped to handle her condition.

Jufri, the patient’s son, expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the assistance rendered by NHM Peduli.

“We are deeply grateful to NHM Peduli for helping to evacuate our mother by helicopter so she could be promptly referred to Manado for medical care. This assistance means the world to our family. May God reward Mr. Haji Robert and the entire NHM Peduli team for their care and concern for the people of North Maluku,” he said.

Irwan, Head of the Sustainable Development Division at NHM Peduli, affirmed that the foundation remains committed to helping those in need, not only residents within the mining area, but the broader community, with a particular focus on healthcare access.
