Tackling Waste Management Challenges: NHM Donates Viar Motorcycle to Sofifi Port
PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM) has donated a Viar three-wheeled motorcycle to the Sofifi Port Authority (KUPP) to support waste management and environmental cleanliness in the port area. The handover ceremony took place at the Sofifi Speed Port Office on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
The donation is part of NHM’s broader commitment to supporting government efforts to improve cleanliness at public facilities, particularly at the port, which serves as a key transit hub for communities across North Maluku Province.
The ceremony was attended by KUPP Sofifi Head Bram Haribowo, S.T., accompanied by his staff. NHM was represented by Reffy Herviandi (Manager, Warehouse & Supply Logistics), Harnevar Piga (Senior Supervisor, Government Relations & Permitting), and Fenny Baud (Cost Control, CSR & Government Relations), along with the NHM Peduli team.

Bram Haribowo expressed his appreciation for NHM’s support, noting that it has been instrumental in strengthening the port’s sanitation operations. He explained that the availability of three-wheeled vehicles will significantly streamline the waste collection process across various points within the port, an area that has long faced constraints due to limited transportation resources.
“Waste management at the port has been a persistent challenge due to insufficient vehicle capacity. With these Viar motorcycles from NHM, our team can work faster and more efficiently to keep the port clean. We truly appreciate the support and partnership from NHM,” said Bram.

Harnevar Piga explained that the decision to donate three-wheeled motorcycles came after NHM directly observed the cleanliness conditions at the busy port. He noted that this type of vehicle is particularly well-suited for the environment, as it can access narrow areas that are difficult for larger garbage trucks to reach.
“Sofifi Port is a major transit point for people traveling between regions, which makes cleanliness a priority. These motorcycles are expected to help staff collect waste from areas that larger vehicles simply cannot access,” said Harnevar, adding that he hopes the equipment will be put to optimal use and properly maintained to ensure its longevity.
Through this initiative, NHM and KUPP Sofifi highlight the value of public-private collaboration in maintaining the cleanliness of shared facilities. The addition of these vehicles is expected to strengthen the port’s waste management system and improve the overall experience for passengers and visitors using maritime transportation services in Sofifi.
