NHM and Local Government Collaborate to Address Stunting in Communities Surrounding the Gosowong Mine
In support of the national government’s drive to reduce stunting, PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM) has launched a nutrition-focused program through its corporate social responsibility initiative, NHM Peduli, targeting toddlers in communities surrounding the Gosowong mining area. The program represents a concrete contribution by the company toward sustainably improving public health in the region.
The program aims to reduce stunting cases within the company’s operational areas by providing essential nutritional support and tracking the developmental progress of toddlers in a structured manner. It is implemented through close collaboration with local government, particularly the North Halmahera District Health Office, and actively engages local communities to ensure that every step aligns with government health policies while delivering measurable, lasting impact.
The initial phase involved coordination with the North Halmahera District Health Office to gather data on stunted toddlers from six local community health centers (puskesmas) in the mining area. Field verification was then conducted by NHM Peduli’s Field Coordinators and Medical Team to confirm the actual condition of each child targeted by the program.

Since April 23, 2026, the program has been actively underway, with activities including the provision of formula milk and nutritious meals meeting established nutritional standards. Community health volunteers, PKK cadres at both sub-district and village levels, are also engaged to strengthen local participation in supporting toddler nutrition.
Dr. Samsul, NHM Peduli’s supervising physician, emphasized that the program is designed to achieve long-term impact through consistent and comprehensive monitoring.

“Our approach goes beyond simply providing nutritional intake. We ensure that each child’s development is regularly monitored so that interventions can be tailored to their individual needs,” he said.
Following an initial 60-day nutrition support phase, a comprehensive evaluation of each child’s nutritional and health status will be conducted with specialist doctors. The assessment aims to identify health conditions and factors affecting growth and development, while laying the groundwork for more targeted follow-up interventions.
