With Indotan’s acquisition of the majority of shares, PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM) has implemented several changes in various aspects, including its relationships with governments at the central, provincial, and regency levels. Similarly, the company has also improved its relationship with the districts and villages within the mining ring area. Now, any issues that arise are discussed and solutions are sought collectively.

Following the acquisition, H. Robert Nitiyudo Wachjo, the owner and President Director of NHM, known as Haji Robert among employees and communities residing in the mining ring area, held a series of meetings with government officials from the province and regency where the Gosowong Gold Mine is located.

When the pandemic began in March 2020 and affected North Maluku Province, more intensive communication was established to support the government’s prevention and mitigation efforts. As COVID-19 started impacting the lives of people in the mining ring area, communications were held with district and village heads to aid in the economic recovery of the local population.

The relationship with stakeholders has been greatly improved. We have actively engaged in communication with the Village Head and the Head of the Sub-District of the mining ring, aiming to establish better relationships and enhance support for the local Government of North Halmahera Regency and North Maluku Province, thereby boosting community development. In the mining ring, Indotan sincerely hopes that NHM will make a significant contribution to improving the well-being of the community.

Various programs have been implemented through direct communication with the communities and the officials of the Village and Sub-District. We have created a list of tasks to address the well-being of the mining ring communities, and Indotan, through NHM, is fully committed to addressing these issues. The response from the local government, Sub-District, Village, and communities has been extremely positive, acknowledging the positive changes brought about by NHM.

The Social Performance department of NHM has actively reached out to the villages in the mining ring area to provide essential supplies to the communities. As we entered 2021, with no clear indication of when the pandemic would end, NHM allocated additional funds to support community programs in the mining ring area, preparing them for future independence.

Within this framework, local administrations, including districts and villages, have been actively involved in every phase of the program. The company is dedicated to supporting what is deemed as the primary needs of the communities. “Mining for Life” is the message NHM strives to convey to stakeholders. Essentially, Indotan aims for NHM’s presence in North Maluku to contribute to the province’s economic development, as it is one of the provinces in eastern Indonesia.
