Based on the Contract of Work (CoW) signed with the Government of Indonesia on April 28, 1997, the working area of PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM) which is known as Gosowong Gold Mine, is located at North Halmahera Regency in North Maluku Province. Today, NHM operates in a Contract of Work area of about 29,622 hectares.
In 1994, Newcrest Mining Ltd. and PT Aneka Tambang Tbk. (Antam) formed a joint venture to find gold deposits on Halmahera Island. In the same year, the joint effort succeeded in finding economically valuable gold deposits in the Gosowong area.
Then Newcrest and Antam jointly established NHM, which was followed by the signing of its Contract of Work with the Government of Indonesia in 1997.
The open surface mining method in Gosowong Gold Mine has been completed, and currently NHM is carrying out full underground mining operations in two of its production areas, Kencana and Toguraci.
In the Contract of Work area, NHM operations in Gosowong Gold Mine are equipped with dedicated seaport and an airstrip located in Kobok area to support the Company’s day to day activities.
